Welcome

September 19, 2008

Welcome to the NYC Sex Bloggers 2009 Calendar Project. What started as a little idea in my head, grew wings and flew thanks to the many amazing people in our community and beyond.

“How cool would it be to do a blogger calendar and sell it to benefit a good cause,” was the little thought that blossomed. Everyone I asked couldn’t wait to participate or assist with time, suggestions, money and all manner of support.

In the end, twelve of NYC’s most dynamic literary and sex positive women -writers, sex educators, film makers, and ordinary women – joined together in order to support Audacia Ray’s Sex Work Awareness Project. We are some of the New York area’s best and brightest, and we want to see the stigma associated with sex work and workers removed.

We are:

Audacia Ray

Desiree

Diva

Elizabeth Wood

Jamye Waxman

Lux Alptraum

Mariella

Rachel Kramer Bussel

Riese

Sinclair Sexsmith

Tess Danesi

Twanna A Hines

In our limited edition 2009 calendar we will be “taking if off” at the Slipper Room. All profits from the sale of this calendar will go directly to Sex Work Awareness. The poses will be fun and flirty and burlesque themed, with no graphic nudity. Think costumes, corsets, pasties and g-strings.

Stacie Joy, whose specialty is burlesque and New York nightlife, is our amazing photographer. We also have the cooperation of two wonderful graphic designers, Sinclair and Jack, working together to make this project a smashing success.

We’d like to offer everyone, businesses, readers and fellow bloggers, the opportunity to join in the fun and excitement, as well as promote yourselves. That means for $30 you can buy a day in our calendar and personalize it. If you’re a business think about buying one day each month and being remembered all year. If you’re a blogger you can have your blog url on your day, or if you’re a reader, any personal message – you can wish us luck or send a greeting to your favorite blogger or celebrate your birthday or anniversary – up to 80 characters will be printed on your day. That $30 includes one pre-ordered calendar (shipping is extra) with all funds in excess of our expenses going directly to Sex Work Awareness. You can purchase as many additional days as you like depending upon availability for $10 each. Since this is a 2009 calendar, we are on an extremely tight schedule and can only sell days through October 1st, 2008. We hope you will consider this a fun and creative way to promote your blog or just as a way to share in the pleasure and excitement this project has been bringing us in our effort to make our community and world a better, more sex-positive place to live.

Before I let you go and buy your days and calendars there are some people without whose help and support this project would have remained only an idea.

Thank you Njoy, Sliquid, Vergenza, The Slipper Room, FreeFoods NYC, Good Vibrations, OhMiBod, JustinCase, AAG, Catalina, Jack, Calico, and all the above bloggers for everything you’ve done. I feel truly blessed to live in this dynamic and welcoming community, to know all of you and to consider you my friends.

Now go and buy your days and calendars, give us some incentive to “take if off.”

Much love,
Tess
